Anonymous asked you: Who is your All Time Favorite Comedian?
Jeez. Since you insist I pick just one, it’s gotta be Richard Pryor. No one’s ever been as hilariously fearless before or since, in my opinion.
laughterkey asked you: When can we look forward to seeing you and Kinane gracing our screens together?
Working on it, trust me. Sadly, our pilot was passed on, but we’ve got another one I’m taking out soon. To me, as a show, it’s a no-brainer. People have been laughing when they see us standing next to each other since 1999.
Anonymous asked you: Currently having an argument with my friend at work. Do you believe the audience has a right to heckle someone off the stage who offends them/sucks, or is that violating some kind of boundary between performer and audience?
Generally speaking, don’t heckle. It makes it crappy for the audience and isn’t fair to the comedian. More often than not, people yell things to be a part of the show, but it doesn’t do anything but make the energy drag. Even if a comedian is offensive or sucks, though, best to avoid it.
HOWEVER, I also believe that rules are made to be broken. I’ll give you an example. When Kyle Kinane and I were starting out, we were doing a show at the Cubby Bear, a huge bar right across from Wrigley Field. We had finished our sets and were drinking at the bar. A guy was onstage saying (I’m not exaggerating at all) “What’s the deal with faggots? You know what I mean? Who could look at a guys ass and want to fuck it?” Needless to say, his act was met with horrified silence and/or people ignoring him and talking at the bar. Kyle, without hesitation, (sarcastically) yelled out “Best comedian ever!” The crowd went nuts, and the best part was at first the guy thought Kyle was serious. I’ll never forget the look on his face as it went from “I’m the best!” to “Oh—oh what? Hey!”
That said, heckling, generally speaking, is crappy.
fattmernandez asked you: I’m a big fan of the whole Chicago class that came out, with you, Kinane, Nanjiani, etc. Do you still keep in contact with those guys?
All of them, yeah. It’s pretty awesome. I look at how we all started out and how far we’ve come and I just get amazed. It’s nuts.
